Chris Ward

I'm a Family & Systemic Psychotherapist – Family Therapist for short. I was part of the family therapy team at Derbyshire CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service). I now work independently. Before ever I was a family therapist I was a doctor at the Royal Derby Hospital. I was in constant contact with couples and families,  which led me to train in  family therapy.  I am a parent and grandparent.  I have written books and articles from my dual perspective as family therapist and doctor. Some of this can be seen on my website

What I do

In person and online
I can meet you online for an initial, no-fee meeting where we can assess whether I am likely to help you. Subsequent meetings can be in-person if you can get to Oxford, or online, or a mixture (each has advantages for some people)

Young people and their families

Family problems often involve children and adolescents. We may all meet together, or in different combinations at different times.

Couples

I can help couples repair troubled relationships, but can also help them work through the challenges of separation

Individuals with troubling relationships

If you need one-to-one therapy for your feelings then I am not the right therapist, but I can help if your concern is family relationships -  whether or not I always see you on your own

Adult families

Adults of all ages can benefit from family therapy

Couples and families living with illness

My work as a doctor has given me a lot of experience in helping young people, couples and families work through the effects of chronic conditions on their relationships
